Following the new National Education Policy, 2020, the CBSE has unveiled a new exam format for the Class 10 exam in 2023 that contains at least 40% competency-based questions, and for class 12th, it’s 30%. This format is for the subjects — Science, Mathematics, and English. It also states MCQs, case studies, questions with sources, and other competency-based question types would make up at least 30% of the total questions. Additionally, according to the board’s announcement, 20% of the questions will be objective-based, while the remaining 50% will be short and long-answer questions., following the current pattern.
The exams for Class 10 are expected to be conducted from February 15 to March 21, 2023. As per the new exam pattern for CBSE, every paper will carry 80 marks—with 20 marks attributed to internal assessment. As per the new exam pattern announced by CBSE, 30% of the questions in class 10 (term 1 & term 2) for 2022-23 will be competency-based, and 40% will be MCQs. The exam will last for 3 hours.
According to the 9-point grading scale, CBSE assigns grades corresponding to earned scores. CBSE will give the following grades after placing all students in ranks. Following is the grAding system breakup:
